I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about false traditions.
For years I’ve had a concern over the monetizing of our sacred religious holidays–Christmas and Easter. Do we as Christians rely too much on commercial trappings to convey joy during our celebrations of these momentous events? Santa and reindeer, bunnies and egg hunts? Do we remind our children of the why while we are decorating, baking, shopping?
I recently came across this wonderful little book “Celebrating a Christ-Centered Easter” by Emily Belle Freeman. It gives us ideas on how to change your traditions. How to transform your paradigm of celebration. Her suggestions offer seven NEW traditions that can lead us closer to Jesus Christ.
It’s not easy steering your family into another more Christ-centered path, but when your six year old thinks first of Jesus instead of the bunny, it will be SO WORTH THE EFFORT.
As Emily says in her book, Peter and John went running to the tomb with hope in their hearts. I want to be like that…running toward Jesus with joy and hope. I want to come running to Him every day.
I wish you love on this Easter week. And, may the Atonement bless your life with forgiveness, ultimate joy and eternal life.
