Hebrews 11

We’ve heard a gazillion times that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.  It’s that ethereal something that exists just beyond our sight.  We may not be able to see it, but it’s one of those things we KNOW.

The eleventh chapter of Hebrews gives us example after example of people with faith. They subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.  They quenched fire, escaped the sword, were made strong and waxed valiant.  Through faith they witnessed raising from the dead and endured torture.  They were mocked, beaten, imprisoned, stoned, tempted, slain, destitute, afflicted and tormented.  They were homeless in deserts, mountains, dens and caves. Yet, their faith never wavered.  Through faith they knew the Lord had made (our) world(s), and through faith they knew He is providing SOMETHING BETTER.

This is what I want my faith to become.  This unshakable, secure, steady and stable influence that permeates my soul, holds true in affliction and propels me toward that “better thing” our Savior has provided for us.

As a Christian, I want to nurture and strengthen that faith which will carry me through this world into the next.  I want the kind of faith that those men and women in Hebrews 11 had.

I choose to nourish my faith by being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
