I’m a reader. From elementary age, reading under the covers with a flashlight to power reading between laundry loads, or reading a chapter at 2 am, reading has always been a part of who I am and what I do.

Recently, one of my granddaughters shared a stack of 8 books with me. We share a favorite author. I just finished them yesterday and am getting ready to input them into Goodreads. I’m under a bit of stress as my new book has a looming deadline, but I felt driven to read them. Readers have that drive…that insatiable, persistent, gotta-do-it momentum that pushes us forward line by line. We always have more to read than we have time to read.

This morning, an article caught my eye as I was opening my pertinent apps to begin my writing day. You know, those little squares of temptation scattered across your computer screen enticing you to click just one, then another, and another… The article’s title, “A Billionaire’s Reading List: 5 Books Cuban Says Everyone Should Know”, there’s a teaser I couldn’t resist. After opening the link, the headline was “Mark Cuban Says If You’re Not Reading, You’re Falling Behind,” and there was no list of books. I hate that bait-and-switch feeling.

Make Time For Reading.

However, after scanning the piece, I was piqued. Mark said, “Somebody who doesn’t read lives one life, somebody who reads an unlimited number of lives.” I love that. I live that, so I read on. The article touted an app called “Blinkist” that summarized books, allowing readers to digest content in 15 minutes. According to the Blinkist editorial team, “Cuban reads more than 3 hours every day. Warren Buffett devotes roughly 80% of his working day to reading. Bill Gates gets through about 50 books a year.” Considering the time constraints each of them surely has, that’s admirable. No, that’s unbelievable. I mean, I believe it, but I look at my own schedule, it seems impossible. I feel like a slacker.

So, I’m interested in this Blinkist.  Let’s give it a go…
